THE
BENEFITS
OF AUSTRALIAN PERMANENT RESIDENCY

Permanent residency entitles you to live in Australia indefinitely. You can enjoy unlimited travel to and from Australia. You will have the freedom to pursue the course of study that you prefer, and you will have various options to choose from when it comes to university or college education.

There are certain education loans that are available only to permanent residents. These loans are extremely helpful in managing any financial crisis that may arise due to the additional expenses associated with your studies.

Working in Australia becomes easier with PR; you can work for any employer in any industry.

However, working in the public service or armed forces is strictly restricted to Australian citizens. Industrial laws between permanent residents and citizens are separate. Permanent residents enjoy the same benefits under these laws as citizens. They can become a part of trade unions and can claim worker’s compensation.

When it comes to social security, PR holders must wait for a period of two years before they are entitled to receive social security, unemployment, and student benefits that are offered by Australia’s Social Security Department. A fantastic benefit is the health care entitlement - a health insurance scheme run by the government called Medicare. You can receive free treatment at a public hospital and subsidised medicine.

Permanent residents of Australia are granted the right to apply for a New Zealand visa. This is a provision that has been granted by the government of New Zealand. Of course, there are a number of formalities and criteria to be fulfilled to be considered a permanent resident. Our specialised immigration attorneys assist with the entire process.
